The handsome Ruby Bird is a classic design by famous professor Oiva Toikka, introduced in 1996. This bird is made of ruby red glass, which was a difficult color to produce, as it needed special procedures.
Hence later Ruby Birds (starting in year 2014 at Iittala) were produced only in cranberry red color, which was an easier color to work with.
This individual is hand made at Nuutajärvi glass factory. It has has plenty of multicolored lustred spots and its head is blue metallic. The last two photos show this bird in a group of three, where you see also a rare interesting black variant!
