This crystal glass sculpture by Finnish glass designer Aimo Okkolin is called "Tähti" ( = "Star" in English). It is made in neodymium glass and changes color from purple to light blue depending of the tone of the light hitting it. The star is purple in bright daylight or warm indoor light. In pure tube light it is light blue almost shifting a little to turquoise. We show several pictures of this color changing crystal sculpture under different light conditions.
Aimo Okkolin created several different fabulous crystal glass sculpures in many different colors at Riihimäen lasi glass factory in Finland in the 60s and 70s. He was exceptionally talanted in polishing colored crystal into fabulous creations. Of the creations in these years the Lumpeenkukka (= Water Lily) is widest known and was produced in very large series. The Star from this same era was also very popular, but was not produced in as huge quantities.
Aimo Okkolin worked at Riihimäen lasi from 1937-1976. He died 1982 at an age of 65.
