This art plate "The Second Millennium Plate" that is numbered 215 out of 400, was made at Arabia Finland to celebrate the Millennium and it is a typical representative of Birger Kaipiainen's more decorative design. It is oval in shape and is decorated with many strategically placed ceramic pearls, creating a third dimension to the surface. The plate is hand painted. The glaze is partly iridescent, which brings something magic to how light acts on the colors.
Birger Kaipiainen (1915-1988) is one of the most successful and well known ceramic artists in Finland. His most famous designs were made at Arabia Ceramics factory.
